Claire: Where are you from?
你來自哪裡？
交換生：I’m from Czech Republic.
我來自捷克共和國。
Claire: And what brought you here in Taipei?
是什麼原因讓你來到台北？
交換生：I’m an exchange student here at NTU.
我是台大的交換學生。
Claire: What’s your favourite food in Taiwan?
你在台灣最喜歡的食物是？
交換生：I really like the scallion pancakes, “danbing”
我很喜歡蔥油餅、蛋餅
Claire: Wait, do you speak Chinese?
等等，你會說中文嗎？
交換生：No, no, just like the basics like “你好”，“謝謝”
不會，只會一些基本的，“你好”，“謝謝”
Claire: That’s good enough. How are Taiwanese friends different from friends back home?
這樣就很厲害了。台灣的朋友有什麼不同跟你在家鄉的朋友？
交換生：Really friendly. They always want to help you, but sometimes like they are a bit shy.
非常友善。他們總是想幫助你，但有時候會有點害羞。
Claire: How are Taiwanese people’s English?
那台灣人的英文程度如何？
交換生：I think Taiwanese, they know English, but they are kind of afraid to speak to you.
我覺得台灣人，他們懂英文但他們有點害怕跟你說英文。
Claire: How do they teach English in school in the Czech Republic?
捷克的學校是怎麼教英文的？
交換生：I think the difference in Taiwan, they are taught mostly like grammar. They don’t practice speaking that much. I think we practice speaking a bit more so that we are not that afraid.
我覺得跟台灣的差別在於台灣主要在教文法。他們不太練習開口說英文，我覺得我們會多練習口說，所以我們比較不會害怕。
Claire: What are some tips you would want to give them?
你有什麼建議要給他們嗎？
交換生：Not to be afraid to speak. Like, English is not my first language either. So I get that! Your accent is not perfect. It’s fine.
不要害怕說英文。英文也不是我的母語，所以我能理解！若你的口音不是很完美，沒關係。

- exchange student 交換生 👉換句話說：”I’m studying abroad at NTU.” 我正在台大進行海外學習。
“I’m part of a student exchange program.” 我參加了交換生計畫。
- Get that 理解 👉換句話說：”I totally understand where you’re coming from.” 我完全能理解你的想法。”I know what you mean—it’s not easy.” 我知道你的意思——這並不容易。
- tip 忠告 👉換句話說：”What recommendations would you like to offer them?” 你有什麼建議想要提供給他們？。”What suggestions do you want to share with them?” 你想和他們分享哪些建議？
